Forward, March! Parading with Costumed Nerds

Hello friends! Been a little bit since my last post. Today I want to share with you something that is close to my heart: costuming! Specifically, the Star Wars costume clubs and the charity work that we do. On Sunday, March 16th, I marched with 56 other costumers in the Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s…

Swimming with Seals and Sharks: A Voyage to the Maritime Aquarium

Hello friends! Welcome or welcome back to my blog. I know we have skipped a few weeks. Truth is, not much of great interest has happened in my life (at least, nothing that I am comfortable sharing). Fortunately, I have a story for you this week! In early February, I paid a visit to the…

Walking with Vampires: A Tour of the Newark Museum of Art

Hello friends! We made it to February! Sorry for missing a week. That said, welcome (or welcome back) to my blog! On Sunday, January 23rd, I ventured out to the port city of Newark, New Jersey, for a tour of the renowned Newark Museum of Art. What made this visit interesting was the fact that…

  • To Sea or Not to Sea? That is the Question

To Sea or Not to Sea? That is the Question

Ahoy, friends! We’re still in January. Some developments have occurred, such as an unexpected breakup, a sibling moving, and never hearing back from job applications. Granted, those jobs were for tugboat positions, which I am no longer interested in. In this week’s post, I will share my thoughts on the pros and cons of working…

Cruising on the Brain: My Thoughts on the Cruise Industry

Hello friends! How’s everyone doing? We’re halfway through the month, and there’s still a lot to do. This week, we will talk about something much more familiar to me: cruising. The cruise industry is the maritime world’s tourism wing, offering excursions locally and across oceans. This area of maritime work is where I have spent…

Tugging Along: Musings About Tugboats and Life on Board

Hello friends! Happy new year! We have arrived in 2025. With the new year comes new opportunities, some of which float on water. Lately I have had tugboats on the brain, which I will explain in more detail below. The tugboat industry is largely invisible to the general public, so I will give you all…

This is how it all started…

In November of 1990, my life began. Not long after, I would be watching Thomas and Friends on VHS, which began a lifelong love of trains. Then one Christmas, my uncle would give me my first electric train set. It was a Lionel Large Scale Thomas, with Annie & Clarabel, and a circle of track. Hence began my love of model railroading. Loving model trains would turn into loving real trains as I entered adulthood, and today I proudly work on heritage trains.

This venture began in 2024 as a way to launch a new business venture, further my writing skills, and share my love of railroading with the wider community. Thank you so much for coming aboard, and don’t forget to subscribe!

Bill McNally is a lifelong lover of trains that run on steam. He is also a licensed Captain and enjoys piloting boats.
